I, like my fellow members of the conservative blogosphere, saw a silver lining in today’s passage of the $1.2 trillion crap sandwich: Every single Republican voted against this nightmare. There were no defections to support the bill in order to appease the Charmer-in-Chief. In fact, 11 Democrats bucked the president in voting against the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Debt Bill of 2009.
Now we have to make sure that Senate Republican follow suit in rejecting this crap sandwich. If liberal Democrats want to make this their Christmas tree of special projects, telling Republicans to get bent when they offer a differing view, then let them own it. Let them take credit for spending $1.2 trillion, tantamount to tens of thousands of dollars per family, for a package destined to fail. Let them own the failure.
More from across the web
A party line vote on a pork-laden trillion dollar spending bill–now that’s change you can believe in.
Seriously, this was a good night for Republicans because it was a display of unity that the minority party will need going forward. Of 11 Democrats who voted against the stimulus, most are considered vulnerable next cycle. I don’t recall the last time that Republicans have been this united. Three cheers for change.
McQ:
Obviously Obama didn’t promise enough to buy them off or they can sense a turkey when they see one. Republicans haven’t had solidarity like that since 9/11.
Huzzah.

UPDATE: Reader Mark Cates writes: “You might mention that it would be worthwhile to send these guys a Thank You for their vote. They probably need as much encouragement as they can get. I sent one to Shuler.”
Finally. A party of opposition worth its name.
It should be an interesting cocktail party tonight at the White House.
It was a hollow victory. Nice work, Speaker.
More later.
