“Moderates” Reach Tentative Stimulus Deal; Updated

And by “moderates” I mean a couple of RINOs who can’t wait to bend over for The One. Supposedly the compromise cuts the cost of the stimulus by about $100 billion, meaning that we’ll only be wasting about $790 billion that our future generations will have to pay for. Whew. What a deal.

Senate Moderates Reach Tentative Stimulus Deal

A group of Senate moderates working on an amendment to cut up to $100 billion in spending from the economic stimulus package have completed a tentative proposal that will be presented to Senate Democrats at a 5:30 p.m. caucus meeting, Senate Budget Chairman Kent Conrad told reporters. “There is a proposal that is sufficiently fleshed out and we will have a caucus and discuss it,” Conrad said after emerging from talks in Senate Majority Leader Reid’s office. Democrats hope the proposal, developed by Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Ben Nelson, R-Neb. [SIC], will attract several GOP supporters and be acceptable to all Democrats, which would allow for passage of the plan as early as tonight.

Details will be posted on CongressDaily’s Web at http://www.nationaljournal.com/congressdaily/ site as they become available.

How will Senate Democrats greet a cut in their pet projects by $100 billion? Stay tuned.

Update: Via Allah, the “moderates” are cowards:

Reid suggested to reporters that he had two GOP backers for the bill but needed at least one more because neither wants to be the crucial 60th vote if all 58 members of the Democratic caucus support Obama.

Any RINO that supports this should be actively worked against. Heck, I’ll donate to their Democratic opponent if we can’t get them out in the next primary. If we’re going to have to choose between a Democrat dressed as a Republican or a Democrat dressed as a Democat, I’ll take the latter.

Update: Apparently Harry isn’t convinced that the bill will pass with a wide margin. He’s wheeling in Ted Kennedy — recovering from a seizure in Florida — to vote on it.

Update: Apparently the two RINOs are Collins and Specter. Carl Cameron, however, is saying that there may be a third.

Update: The cost is now up to $805 billion. It’s likely going to pass. Republican “moderates” are too willing to bend over for Obama and too interested in being “liked” by liberal Democrats. Future generations will be robbed of hundreds of billions of dollars, but Democrats and their special projects will be happy. We’re just the little people who have to pay for it all.
