Are You Ready for Your Health to be Monitored and Rationed?

by Stephan Tawney on February 9, 2009

You thought that you and your doctor might know what’s best for your health? Silly, only Nanny Government knows what’s best for you.

But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”

That’s in the “stimulus” bill poised to pass the U.S. Senate. Maybe, just maybe, Americans will finally understand that liberals don’t think you know what’s best for your health. They want to talk about being “pro-choice”? Yeah, uh huh. Does that extend beyond the “right” to kill babies?
