RNC Responds to Obama’s Fourth Pro-Union Executive Order

by Stephan Tawney on February 9, 2009

I posted about President Obama’s fourth pro-union executive order back on Friday. The order required that union labor be used on the federal contruction projects in the so-called “stimulus” bill. It’s just Obama’s latest payback to the unions for helping him get to the White House. Well, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has responded to the executive order:

President Obama’s executive order will drive up the cost of government at a time when we should be doing everything possible to save taxpayer dollars. Federal contracts should go to the businesses that can offer taxpayers the best value – not just the unions who supported the Democrats’ campaigns last year. Quietly signing executive orders to payback campaign backers undermines Obama promise to change Washington. It is a disappointment for Americans hoping for more transparency and less politics as usual in Washington.

The Senate is scheduled to vote on cloture on the Obama Re-election Act of 2009 this evening. The final Senate vote is tomorrow.
