Flashback: Poll Says Democrats Wanted Bush to Fail

Which should come as absolutely no surprise. The left’s “outrage” over Rush’s comments were never authentic to begin with. But the fauxrage is a great distraction from tax-and-spend plans and can earn an independent or two’s support along the way.

The poll is from 2006 and was dug up by Patterico. Not only did 51% of Democrats want then-President George Bush to fail, but more than a third of Independents joined in that wish. And this was in the middle of two raging wars, the rebuilding of New Orleans, and other difficult tasks. Damn unpatriotic dittoheads.

Did I miss the mainstream media’s multi-week outrage over this revelation? Perhaps Democratic politicians or liberal pundits forced to renounce the majority of their party for the better of the nation? Of course I didn’t. Because that was a time when dissent was the highest form of patriotism. That was a time when hoping for the President of the United States to fail was totally acceptable and patriotic. That was when we had a Republican president and Democratic opposition.

The deciders have decided. Democratic opposition is unquestionably patriotic. Republican opposition is worthy of condemnation and outrage. How dare we not want The One to succeed magnificently. Unpatriotic rubes.
