Video: Obama’s Back-Breaking Bow to the Saudi King

by Stephan Tawney on Thu, Apr 2, 2009

I seem to remember the left tearing President Bush apart for sucking up to the House of Saud. Yet I don’t recall the man from Texas ever bowing this low to Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.

You need to see the picture over at Michelle Malkin’s site to fully grasp the absurdity of this greeting.

This is MUCH MORE disturbing than Bush holding hands. That was foreign, but it was an act of equals. Bowing is an act of supplication, and clearly against our protcols. it is totally unacceptable that he bowed to the (functiong, not merely sybomlic) king of a backward country which doesn’t even allow women to drive. He took the liberty of doin this in MY name, and I’m appalled.

Obama’s action appears rather spontainous to me, rather than one he had been intending to do all along; I judge that he would have restrained himself if he had foreseen the kind of criticisms that would have arisen from his gesture to the king.Beyond this, I think Obama’s action could also be understood within the larger context of his understanding that the West has and the Muslim world have not had the best of relations in recent times, and his enthusiasm to have a break from that past. Perhaps he went too far for a president of the United States but it’s good that Americans are convinced that they have a good president in Obama, as he has won for America a lot of goodwill almost everywhere. So, if at all Obama was wrong, he should be forgiven.

As if it weren’t bad enough that Dubya was getting cozy in his time with the Saudis, now president Obama does something just as disturbing, by bowing to the king…
