New York Governor David Paterson has a very short memory. Paterson says that not only were today’s shootings tragic, something everyone can agree with, but that they were the worst in his state’s history.
And now here in Binghamton we probably have the worst tragedy and senseless crime in the history of this state. When are we going to be able to curb the kind of violence that is so fraught and so rapid that we can’t even keep track of the incidents?
And those 2,750 people murdered in his state on September 11, 2001? Those hundreds killed in the New York Draft Riots in 1863? The crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in Queens, killing 265 people? A tragedy, yes, but hardly the worse in the history of New York.
I don’t think Paterson meant anything by it, but it sure demonstrates his incompetence. I’d play “Imagine if a Republican Had Said This”, but we all know the double-standard by now. No need to beat a dead horse.
