Multiple Swine Flu Cases Confirmed in the United States

by Stephan Tawney on April 25, 2009

Two confirmed cases in Kansas and eight probable in New York City. And that’s just in the United States. Mexico is looking at 60 deaths and 1,000 likely suspected cases of illness from the swine flu outbreak. President Felipe Calderone has declared a state of emergency, Mexico City has cancelled all public events, and the city’s residents are being urged to stay home.

The good news? There isn’t much so far, just the fact that there are no reported deaths due to the swine flu in the United States and apparently we have the medicine to deal with it. Still, we’re facing a possible mass outbreak at a NYC prepartory school, we have no plans to close the border, the CDC says it’s far too advanced to contain, and the World Health Organization is extremely concerned about it spreading internationally. So stay tuned.
