I for one learned quite a bit from tonight’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner. For example, I learned how to extract information from Joe Biden, I learned that Obama recognizes the bias of the media, but most of all I learned that expressing political dissent now makes you a traitor and akin to Osama Bin Laden.
Wanda Sykes, the so-called “comedian” who was invited to entertain the dinner guests, had the following to say about Rush Limbaugh:
“You’ve had your fair share of critics. … Rush Limbaugh said this administration fails. … He just wants the country to fail. To me that’s treason. He’s not saying anything different than what Osama Bin Laden is saying. You might want to look into this, sir, because I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was just so strung out on Oxycontin he missed his flight. … Rush Limbaugh, I hope the country fails, I hope his kidneys fail, how about that? He needs a good waterboarding, that’s what he needs.”
Really? So, torturing terrorists is wrong but torturing a fellow American is just dandy? I’m having trouble following the logic there. Further more, since when is opposing the administration and hoping that its policies fail akin to treason? Better yet, in what way is it comparable to a man responsible for killing thouands of innocent men, women, and children in the name of religion?
Sykes’ performance was despicable and should be condemned. And, to their credit, some on the left are doing just that. Nikki Finke, a liberal Democrat, has called the performance inappropriate and hyper-partisan, with Sykes jumping at the jugular of conservatives rather than a gentle ribbing of all sides. Hopefully we’ll see more of that.
