They just couldn’t stay out of the Republican primary and let there be a fair fight between Charlie Crist and Marc Rubio. They had to come out and endorse the porkulus-supporting, cap-and-trade-supporting moderate option in a state not exactly adverse to electing conservative Republicans.
“I am pleased today to endorse Gov. Charlie Crist for the United States Senate. With his record of reform in Florida, I know that Gov. Crist will bring a fresh perspective to Washington in our efforts to fight for lower taxes, less government and new job creation for all Americans. Charlie Crist is a tireless advocate on behalf of all Floridians and one of only three Governors who earned an ‘A’ from the CATO Institute for his efforts to restrain spending and cut taxes last year,” Cornyn said.
“While I believe Marco Rubio has a very bright future within the Republican Party, Charlie Crist is the best candidate in 2010 to ensure that we maintain the checks and balances that Floridians deserve in the United States Senate. Gov. Crist is a dedicated public servant and a dynamic leader, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee will provide our full support to ensure that he is elected the next United States Senator from Florida.”
Uh huh. That’s why he campaigned alongside Barack Obama for the massive spending and government-increasing package known as porkulus. Because he’s such a tireless advocate for fiscal conservatism.
As for the CATO Institute, let’s see what else it has to say about Charlie Crist. “On the other side, of course, Florida governor Charlie Crist was perhaps the most ardent Republican proponent of the stimulus bill.” (Here) The posting then goes on to suggest that Crist isn’t among the Republicans who “are (or at least want to be) fiscal conservatives.”
Basically it’s more BS from a group left wondering why the money and resources aren’t there for them. The NRSC could’ve stayed the hell away from the primary until the voters decided, but it instead resorted to endorsing a man whose support for porkulus rivaled that of even some Democrats. Heckuva job, NRSC.
