DiFi: You Know, We Have to Remember the Context in Which Waterboarding Occurred

In her mad rush to defend the beleaguered Nancy Pelosi, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) reminded people that the context in which waterboarding occurred was a post-9/11 world in which America and its people were panicked. Which, er, is exactly the defense offered by Bush Administration officials for their actions.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, backed Pelosi.

“I think it’s a tempest in a teapot really to say: Well, Speaker Pelosi should have known all of this, she should have stopped this, she should have done this or done that,” she said.

“I don’t want to make an apology for anybody, but in 2002, it wasn’t 2006, 07, 08 or 09. It was right after 9/11, and there were in fact discussions about a second wave of attacks.”

Really? You don’t say. Of course, that little bit of reality hasn’t stopped the left’s witch hunt of Bush Administration officials who had to actually make those difficult decisions in the aftermath of 9/11. You know, the people actually responsible for preventing a potential second wave of attacks.

The CIA conducted EITs having notified both Republican and Democratic members of Congress — most of whom raised no objection to the techniques until they went public. Even when those objections were raised before the publication, they were raised by Jane Harman — in 2003. And Pelosi, even then, refused to add her name to the letter of objection.

This has turned out to be one big clusterfark. Dems set out to destroy Republicans, yet they’ve ended up implicating themselves. Pelosi has been shown to be a liar who was notified of the techniques at the time they were being employed; audio of Chuck Schumer defending the techniques has been rediscovered; the public is now aware that the outraged Congressional Democrats weren’t as surprised by the torture revelation as previously thought; and Dianne Feinstein has unwittingly backed up the defense by Bush Administration officials of the techniques they employed. May the circus continue.
