Poll: GM Owners Unlikely to Buy Another GM Vehicle

by Stephan Tawney on June 8, 2009

A bit of a stumbling block in GM’s road back to prosperity. Apparently the government simply taking over the automaker hasn’t instilled confidence in GM owners to purchase another vehicle from the company in the future. Rasmussen Reports polled owners of GM vehicles and then the general public:

Only 42% of those who currently own a General Motors car are even somewhat likely to buy a GM product for their next car. That figure includes just 30% who are Very Likely to do so.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 43% of current GM owners are not likely to buy another GM car, while 16% are not sure.

Democrats who own GM cars are somewhat more likely than others to buy their next car from GM.

Wait, it gets worse. Amongst the general adult population, just 16% of respondents said they’d be likely to purchase a GM vehicle in the future. Just 6% of non-owners say they’d be very likely to purchase a car from the company. That doesn’t bode well for a turn-around.

As long as GM continues to make Chevrolet trucks, I will purchase only Chevrolet trucks. I am completely satisfied with my 2009 Silverado extended cab (purchased in April). My previous vehicle was a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab. I traded it in because I wanted a new truck with on-star. My other vehicle is a 2006 Harley Davidson Electraglide Classic.
