Obama: We Must be Vigilant About Anti-Semitism

by Stephan Tawney on June 10, 2009

Four months into his presidency and I already feel as if I’m living in a universe crafted by editors of The Onion.

Vigilant about anti-semitism? This coming from a guy who spent twenty years in the pews of Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church, where he was subjected to anti-American and anti-Jewish screeds? The same church that reprinted the terror manifesto for Hamas in its weekly bulletin?

I am shocked and saddened by today’s shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. This outrageous act reminds us that we must remain vigilant against anti-Semitism and prejudice in all its forms. No American institution is more important to this effort than the Holocaust Museum, and no act of violence will diminish our determination to honor those who were lost by building a more peaceful and tolerant world.

Today, we have lost a courageous security guard who stood watch at this place of solemn remembrance. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this painful time.

What exactly does vigilence entail in President Obama’s world? Were he really that vigilant about anti-semitism, he could’ve discovered that his church was reprinting the manifesto for a group dedicated to killing Jews and wiping Israel off the map.

As for “prejudice in all its forms”, don’t make me laugh. Senator Obama talked about how his white grandmother was a “typical white person” for fearing black men on the street. He just nominated a judge to the Supreme Court who believes her skin color leads her to more informed conclusions. Who does he think he’s kidding?
