Bob Dole Recovering From Leg Surgery

by Stephan Tawney on July 10, 2009

The former senator and presidential candidate entered Walter Reed Army Medical Center last week after experiencing a “sharply” elevated heart rate, according to USA Today. His heart turned out to be fine, but apparently doctors discovered problems with sores on his left leg.

Doctors determined the 85-year-old Dole’s heart is fine, but surgeons performed several procedures on his left leg that had open sores. Dole’s legs are healing properly and a skin graft is planned for Monday if Dole’s progress continues at its current pace, according to the law firm’s statement.

The medical attention “has been painful, but I think I will be fine,” Dole said in the statement.

He’s hoping to be out of the hospital by his birthday, which is July 22nd. Prayers for him and his family, and best of luck for a speedy and full recovery.
