Oh My: Dem Ad Attacks Palin, Crist For Leaving Terms Early

by Stephan Tawney on July 17, 2009

It’s simply irresponsible for Governor Charlie Crist to leave his term early if he gets elected to higher office, says the party headed by former Senator Barack Obama, who resigned from his Senate term early after being elected to higher office.

Except that, er, Crist hasn’t resigned. He hasn’t even discussed the idea of resigning from his position early. He’s simply running for U.S. Senate while remaining governor. And his term expires in 2011, not far away from the day that he’d be sworn as senator. So there’s that.

The ultimate irony, however, is the fact that I mentioned in the first paragraph. The Democratic Party really wants to call leaving an elected office early irresponsible? Even in cases where the incumbent is resigning in order to assume higher office? Just months after Barack Obama resigned his post from the U.S. Senate in order to assume the presidency? That takes nads the size of basketballs.
