Poll: Plurality Say ObamaCare Will Make Situation Worse

by Stephan Tawney on July 21, 2009

The poll comes from that harbinger of conservatism that is The Politico. In case you were wondering why Barack Obama has begun attacking Republicans for obstructing something that have absolutely no power to obstruct, this is why. ObamaCare isn’t bleeding support anymore — it’s hemorrhaging support.

In addition, more respondents said government-managed solutions would make the health care situation worse than said they would make it better or keep the situation the same.

Asked what effect a government-managed health care coverage option would have on access to health services, 40 percent said it would make the situation worse, 38 percent said it would make it better and 22 percent said it would remain the same. Asked what its effect would be on the quality of health care, 42 percent said it would make health care worse, 33 percent said it would make it better and 25 percent said it would not have an effect.

Nearly half of respondents — 44 percent — believe government-managed coverage will increase the price of health care. Only 27 percent think a government-managed health care system would lower costs, while 29 percent said prices would remain the same.

Why is that last part an issue for Barack Obama and his cronies in Congress? Because their argument for this $1.4 trillion+ monstrosity thus far has been that it’s expensive yes, but it will still lower costs and improve healthcare. This poll shows that Americans are seeing right through those hackish, blatant lies.

Meanwhile, via Hot Air, we have the fourth poll this month alone that shows less than 50% of Americans approving of the way Barack Obama is handling the healthcare issue. When a Democrat can’t crack half of the population on a major pet issue, you know he’s in trouble:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — As President Barack Obama pushes back against critics of his health care plan, a new national poll indicates that half the country disapproves of how he’s handling the issue.

That’s the finding in a USA Today/Gallup poll released Tuesday. Forty-four percent of those questioned in the survey approve of how Obama’s dealing with health care, while 50 percent do not…

“Obama’s support on health care is similiar to the pattern that polls found for Bill Clinton in 1993,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “In April of 1993, a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll found 51 percent of Americans who approved of how Clinton was handling health care policy. By August of that year, Clinton’s approval rating on health care had dropped to 44 percent.”

What’s causing the sudden drop in support for The One? Perhaps it’s the fact that his prediction success rate is absolutely horrible. He said the $787 billion stimulus would save or create millions of jobs immediately. We’ve lost 2.3 million jobs since he signed it into law. He said unemployment would hit over 8% if we didn’t pass the aforementioned stimulus package. It’s now at 9.7% with the stimulus.

And now the same man is asking the American people to trust his predictions with a $1.4 trillion piece of legislation that the CBO and other non-partisan outlets are already saying would be disastrous. You’ll excuse their hesitation to trust his predictions with such a large amount of money — money we would have to borrow from China — yet again.
