Blue Dogs to Pelosi: You Don’t Have the Votes

by Stephan Tawney on July 22, 2009

Despite Nanny McBotox Nancy Pelosi asserting that she has the votes to pass ObamaCare in the House of Representatives, leaders of the Blue Dog Coalition are saying that the votes simply aren’t there.

Mike Ross is one of those leaders:

“No, I don’t think they have the votes,” Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., said, arguing if that were the case he and the other six Blue Dogs on the House Energy and Commerce Committee who have been holding up the bill in committee would be under far less pressure.

And, via Hot Air, Baron Hill agrees:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Indiana Democrat Baron Hill, a Blue Dog congressman negotiating with leaders on health care, disagreed with Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s statement Wednesday that Democrats have the votes to pass health care in the House.

“I think the Speaker was well intended because she was hearing optimistic things, but I don’t believe there are the votes on the floor as of right now,” he said Wednesday.

Pelosi would appear to be bluffing at this point, basically saying she has the votes anyway so why not jump on board? Polls show the public having turned against the legislation, Blue Dogs appear to be no less concerned today than yesterday, voters are actually now laughing at their representatives, and Dick Durbin is telling The Hill that the Senate won’t be able to vote until at least after the August recess.

But suddenly she has the votes? Excuse my skepticism.

More from DrewM:

Let’s see, there is no actual bill at the moment. One of the three House committees responsible for writing the bill has canceled its meetings for the last two days but Nanc says everything is fine.

Just dandy.
