Could the man have come up with a worse example of a government-run operation? The Department of Motor Vehicles perhaps? The Post Office that, per Obama’s own admission, is always the one carrier in trouble? I know: FEMA.
Cardin said how to pay for the bill has not yet been worked out, a comment that prompted even more derision from the audience. Some shouted, “Taxes!” and others shouted, “Spend, Ben, spend!”
At one point, four police officers strolled down the two aisles of the auditorium at Towson University and stood in front of the stage.
Cardin defended the health bills, saying they would provide more choice, and that there would be more people, not fewer, with insurance.
One questioner asked for an example of anything the government had taken over and provided cheaper. Cardin cited the national parks system and Medicare.
That drew more boos and jeers.
Cardin said Medicare is cheaper than private insurance for the elderly, adding, “your government runs it more effectively.”
Funny story: Medicare is threatening to drown the United States in debt, many physicians have simply decided to stop accepting it as payment due to its pathetic compensation practices, and the Obama Administration intends to gut the program in order to pay for ObamaCare. But yeah, Ben, let’s cite Medicare as a prime example of governmental success.
This is what happens when you become so far removed from the life of the average American that you don’t know what works and what doesn’t. When you don’t have to deal with Medicare, you don’t know that Medicare is a monstrous debacle getting worse by the day. When you don’t have to wait in line at the DMV, you don’t know that the DMV is a bureaucratic nightmare whose name is synonymous with everything wrong in government.
Perhaps Mr. Cardin could spend a little less time kissing up to The One and a little more time understanding the people he supposedly represents.
Via Hot Air.
