This is what we in the business call a “hissy fit”.
The Honduran Supreme Court decided to reject a compromise that would’ve put the anti-democratic Manuel Zelaya back into power after repeatedly violating his country’s constitution, so Obama — dedicated to reinstating the Hugo Chavez stooge — has the State Department no longer issuing visas to Honduras.
We’re now actually punishing a country for upholding its constitution and legally rejecting a dictator-in-training. Unbelievable.
The OAS Foreign Ministers mission is in Honduras seeking support for the San Jose Accord, which would restore the democratic and constitutional order and resolve the political crisis in Honduras. In support of this mission and as a consequence of the de facto regime’s reluctance to sign the San Jose Accord, the U.S. Department of State is conducting a full review of our visa policy in Honduras. As part of that review, we are suspending non-emergency, non-immigrant visa services in the consular section of our embassy in Honduras, effective August 26. We firmly believe a negotiated solution is the appropriate way forward and the San Jose Accord is the best solution.
Translation: We’re cutting off tourism and business dollars in retaliation for Honduras defending its laws. Let’s recall that Zelaya was removed by the Supreme Court, with the backing of the legislature, after he tried to hold an illegal referendum that sought to put him in office for life.
We’re punishing a democratic ally of ours, an ally dedicated to the rule of law and balance of powers, in order to please Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers. The Obama Administration’s troubling priorities are becoming clearer by the day.
