Update: A statement from the family:
“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” the Kennedy family said in a statement. “He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it.”
I certainly hope he’s with the Lord now, and his family remains in my prayers. But I don’t look forward to the coming week or so of the media’s canonization of Kennedy. Or the way it’ll use his story as an excuse to shill for ObamaCare. At the end of the day, Kennedy was still responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne.
I’m glad his family was able to be by his side at the time of his death, but perhaps her family would’ve liked to have been there when she would’ve eventually died of old age. You know, rather than drowning in Ted Kennedy’s car as he swam away and got some rest.

Senator Kennedy was my senator from Massachusetts. I remember, as a student when he came to my college and gave a speech. I didn’t agree with a single thing he said but I knew he believed in helping less fortunate people, no matter the method and he DID care about people. I always felt sorry for him in a way because there was a great burden heaped upon him when he didn’t ask for it. His father, his oldest brother, John, and Bobby dwarfed him always and I know that he tried to do what they would have wanted and carry on and live up to the legacy and the weight of something like that took its toll on him. I always believed he felt guilty for being well off and being part of a powerful family and tried to make up for it by going beyond common sense sometimes to be in the forefront of poor people’s causes, recognized his political obligations to achieve a larger objective, and many of his personal problems were as a result of self-medicating with alcohol. I know there are a lot of us that do or have done the same thing so who are we to judge? God Bless you and your family, you’re with your brothers,some of your sisters and your parents now. I hope you’re playing touch football or sailing right now and you are at peace.
