National Unemployment Rate Rises to 9.7%; 26-Year High

Missing: The millions of jobs Barack Obama promised his $787 billion “stimulus bill” would “create or save” in a “timely” manner.

Found: A 26-year high unemployment rate, with almost 10% of the American workforce without a job.

The economy shed 216,000 jobs during the month of August. It’s the fewest so far this year, but more than economists predicted and the total is before revision. The Associated Press says the economy needs to add 125,000 just to keep the unemployment rate stable. So we’re only off by about 341,000 jobs per month before we can even stabilize unemployment.

The media may now resume its chorus of, “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and its narrative that Barack Obama has brought the recession to an end. That is all.
