CNN’s Laughable ObamaCare Poll

If CNN’s poll is to be believed, opponents of ObamaCare have quite a bit to worry about after tonight’s speech. CNN says that two out of three individuals who watched Obama’s speech tonight now support his health care plan. It’s a game-changer, we’re told.

Except we actually have to read the fine print. What was the party ID breakdown for the poll?

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted just before and just after the president’s speech, with 427 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

The sample of speech-watchers in this poll was 45 percent Democratic and 18 percent Republican. Our best estimate of the number of Democrats in the voting age population as a whole indicates that the sample is about 8-10 points more Democratic than the population as a whole.

So they came to this result after asking 427 adults, 45% of them Democrats and just 18% of them Republicans, whether or not they liked what Obama said. They gave Democrats a 27% party identification advantage. Good Lord.

They couldn’t have rigged that in Obama’s favor more if they actually had ACORN working for them.
