Dem Congressman: Time to Ditch the Czars

by Stephan Tawney on September 9, 2009

Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK) has apparently recognized the threat the ever-growing system of “czars” poses to legislative oversight of the executive branch. He’s now calling for an end of the czar system and return to normal legislative oversight of executive power.

Under the current system, people like 9/11 Truther and admitted communist Van Jones have quite a bit of power and large budgets to work with, yet they answer only to the president. Furthermore, there’s no confirmation process outside of whether the president likes the czar he’s appointing.

U.S. Rep. Dan Boren said Congress should use the power of the purse to push the Obama administration to remove so-called czars that do not go through a confirmation process.

Responding to questions during a telephonic town hall, the Oklahoma Democrat said he was glad Van Jones, who resigned over the weekend as controversy continued to build over past statements, has left his post.

Boren joined others in criticizing the growing trend to name czars to lead efforts in specific areas.

Such officials do not go through oversight hearings or a confirmation vote in the Senate.

Boren is right. It’s time to end this undemocratic system.

There is much Obama is doing to be a dictator in the USA. The right to Executive Privilege has been taken to an extreme and should be viewed and changed by Congress, perhaps in 2010. Obama had too many crazy thinking Czars long ago with only bloggers interested in get factual information on them. Truth be known many would not have a chance to dictate power…like Lloyd.
