Maryland May Prosecute Individual Who Exposed ACORN Corruption

by Stephan Tawney on September 11, 2009

Yes, we’re talking about prosecuting the guy — James O’Keefe — who exposed corruption at the ACORN office.

Not the workers who were willing to aide a prostitution ring, lie to federal authorities on tax forms, and assist individuals in bringing underage girls into the country to work in the sex trade. No, the guy who dared to expose them.

STATEMENT OF STATE’S ATTORNEYS OFFICE FOR BALTIMORE CITY RELATIVE TO THE ALLEGED BALTIMORE ACORN INCIDENT

Baltimore, MD – September 11, 2009 – We have received inquiries from citizens and the media asking whether the Baltimore City State’s Attorneys Office would initiate a criminal investigation for acts allegedly committed at ACORN offices located in Baltimore. The only information received in reference to this alleged criminal behavior was a YouTube video. Upon review by this office, the video appears to be incomplete. In addition, the audio portion could possibly have been obtained in violation of Maryland Law, Annotated Code of Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article §10-402, which requires two party consent.

If it is determined that the audio portion now being heard on YouTube was illegally obtained, it is also illegal under Maryland Law to willfully use or willfully disclose the content of said audio. The penalty for the unlawful interception, disclosure or use of it is a felony punishable up to 5 years.

So they’re looking at ACORN workers involved in numerous illegal activities and have decided to seek charges against the kid who exposed their illegal activities instead. Welcome to Maryland.

The Maryland State’s Attorney Office is basically a wing of the Democratic National Committee now. Only a left-wing political organization could view what happened in these videos and decide to go after the kids who actually exposed the left-wing corruption.

Incidentally, Maryland went after Linda Tripp for taping Monica Lewinksy’s conversation, too. Funny how Maryland is quick to go after individuals who make life uncomfortable for Democratic politicians. Amazing.

Update: Question for any legal professionals out there. Why is 60 Minutes able to record conversations without consent and get away with it?
