It’s official: Senate Democrats will be jumping off the cliff for ObamaCare/BaucusCare by themselves with no Republican colleagues to blame for the results.
Senator Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), who voted for the $787 billion stimulus package pushed by Barack Obama, has walked away from Senate Finance Committee after Democrats insisted on socializing our nation’s health care system.
Senate Democrats are going to have to move forward on healthcare without a single Republican supporter after Sen. Olympia Snowe said Tuesday she could not back the Finance Committee’s bill.
Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) failed to win any Republican backer despite weeks of intense negotiations behind closed doors to strike a deal…
Faced with the prospect of having to pass legislation without Republican votes, Obama’s chief political adviser David Axelrod met with Senate and House Democrats on Tuesday to stress the importance of party unity on healthcare reform — a message most directly aimed at centrists who now are critical to its passage.
Despite Obama’s lie-filled speech to the nation last week, his efforts to put government in control of the health care system remain very unpopular. Democrats, especially vulnerable Blue Dogs, are hesitant to lose their jobs next year in the pursuit of implementing a socialist agenda. Hence the need for Axelturf to rally his troops.
Incidentally, Democrats now have to use a parliamentary procedure known as “reconciliation”, only authorized for budgetary manners, in order to pass any version of ObamaCare. Democrats only have control of 59 seats in the Senate and no Republican votes. They need 60 to invoke cloture, and some liberal Democrats have already promised to vote against Baucus’ plan.
