If you already know who Zelaya is, you can skip the first three paragraphs.
Manuel Zelaya was removed with the approval of the Honduran supreme court, military, and legislature earlier this year after he attempted to hold an illegal referendum that would’ve allowed him to be the latest “president for life”. His attempts to hold the vote and remove the military leadership stopping him were unconstitutional, and so his removal even had the support of members of his own party.
But despite all of that, the Obama Administration has been joining with nations such as Venezuela and Cuba in attempts to reinstate Zelaya in Honduras. Washington has cut off all non-humanitarian aide to the country, condemned the nation’s attempt to protect its constitution and rule of law, and even met with Zelaya during a trip to our capital.
Why the support from the United States government? Because Zelaya, regardless of his unconstitutional moves and attempts to become a defacto dictator, is a leftist. And if there’s one thing the Obama Administration likes, it’s leftists. So we’ve overlooked his less-than-democratic history and have blindly supported his attempted return to power.

Now Manuel Zelaya claims that he’s back in Honduras and living in the United Nations compound. There’s only one problem: The United Nations strongly denies the claim. So Zelaya’s simply lying about being back in the country, right? Not so fast. The United States has already confirmed that the removed attempted-dictator is back in the Hunduran capital of Tegucigalpa.
Deposed President Manuel Zelaya said Monday he has returned home to Honduras to reclaim his presidency, defying threats of arrest and summoning supporters.
While the State Department confirmed on Monday that Zelaya is in Honduras, his exact whereabouts were unclear, possibly in an attempt to avoid capture.
“I cannot give details, but I’m here,” Zelaya told the local TV Channel 36. His voice, but not his image, were transmitted.
He said initially that he was at the United Nations headquarters in his homeland, and Elisabeth Sierra, a spokeswoman for the Honduran Embassy in Nicaragua, where Zelaya had been exiled, reiterated the claim.
“He is in Honduras and calling the resistance to gather in front of the United Nations and protect the constitutional president of Honduras,” she said Monday.
But a spokeswoman at the U.N. offices in Tegucigalpa told The Associated Press he wasn’t there. “I have no idea where that story came from,” said spokeswoman Ana Elsy Mendoza. Nonetheless, Zelaya supporters were gathering outside the U.N. compound, said U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas in New York.
The US says it knows he’s back in Honduras, but the U.N. says it doesn’t know where he is. Somehow the United States does. Either we’re in dealings with the individual or group sheltering Zelaya, or he’s actually being sheltered by the United States in Honduras. Either option isn’t acceptable.
Apparently in this new era of HopenChange, the United States supporter attempted-dictators who were violating the constitution of their nation and attempting to overthrow its system of checks and balances. All because the dictator wanna-be is a leftist.
Via Hot Air.
Update: If we know about his presence in another nation’s embassy and have said nothing about it to the government that rightfully ousted him, we’re in on the sheltering. Just like someone who knows about an upcoming robbery and says nothing to the police is considered in on the robbery.
