Major Garrett of Fox News has sources telling him that Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (D) will announce Paul G. Kirk, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, as the interim senator at 11 AM tomorrow.
Kirk currently chairs the Commission on Presidential Debates and the board of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. He also served as an assistant to Senator Ted Kennedy from 1969 to 1977, before leaving to become treasurer of the national Democratic Party a few years later.
Kirk served as a delegate for Barack Obama to the Democratic National Convention in 2008, and the Boston Globe has previously reported that the Kennedy family had favored him to replace Ted Kennedy.
Kirk is a member of board of directors for The Hartford, a major investment and insurance company; Rayonier, a major real estate holding company; and ITT Corporation, which was previously convicted of violating the Arms Export Control Act in 2007 (sent classified info to China) and allegedly had strong ties to Nazi Germany in its earlier days.
