Which goes along with the spinning the rest of the media has been taking part in since a little after the announcement. It wasn’t more than a few minutes after Chicago lost its bid that CNN was concentrating on how much the games would’ve cost the country and how it’s good that the city can now concentrate on fixing crime.
Which isn’t to say that that’s wrong, of course. The Olympics would’ve cost America massively and it often leaves behind a major debt. But these are the same media outlets who were happily expecting the games to be awarded to Chicago just minutes before. It was only after they realized The One would be embarrassed for staking his reputation and losing that they enunciated the negative aspects of hosting the games.
Which brings us to this: President Obama dropped everything, even meeting with commanders in Afghanistan, to stupidly fly to Copenhagen in an attempt to help make his cronies in Chicago money. The bid cost us tens of millions of dollars, never mind having to fly Air Force One and the entire traveling administration crew, in the middle of a recession. Unemployment hit 9.8% today and President Obama was spending God-knows how much to stroke his ego, assuming his mere presence would win over the world.
He failed. Which is par for the course for this administration.
