I can’t believe I’ve taken to caring about what a former American Idol contestant thinks about local school board elections. I’m pretty sure I’ve told someone to shoot me if I were to ever reach this point. And yet…here we are.
The school board in question is that of Wake County, North Carolina. Apparently Aiken attended Leesville Road High, which is part of the Wake County Public School System. The school board recently held elections and, low and behold, there’s now a conservative majority.
This has left Aiken, who is openly gay, distraught:
In a blog post on his web site Thursday, Aiken says “he’s extremely disappointed” by the election results. The former American Idol contestant and Leesville Road High student calls the new school board members “selfish idiots” and says he hopes the public can get rid of them before they “ruin the school system.”
“What happened to Wake County Schools?!?1,” Aiken writes. “Now that i have a kid i am so much more invested and I am EXTREMELY disappointed that so many selfish idiots ran and won seats on the school board. i hope we can get rid of them as soon as possible before they ruin my school system. Idiots.”
Aiken isn’t exactly known for class, apparently. T. Keung Hui at newsobserver.com reports:
Aiken also touches on several other topics in his blog post, including former Miss California Carrie Prejean’s appearance on the Larry King show on Wednesday. Aiken makes a derogatory remark about Prejean.
I’d quote the exact words Aiken used to describe Prejean but this is still a family newspaper.
Supporters of same-sex marriage using derogatory terms to describe opponents all while preaching tolerance of other belief systems is nothing new. Aiken is just the latest hypocrite.
