The deficit will reach a new high, unemployment will be on the rise, and Democrats will be defending their seats in typically conservative districts. Seems like the perfect time for Democrats to suggest giving amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens because they’re apparently doing jobs Americans won’t do. Like working in factories or on construction sites.
Seems like a sure-fire election strategy to me!
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano expressed confidence Friday that Congress would introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill in early 2010 and that debate and passage of the legislation could occur before the mid-term elections later that year.
A lot has changed since Congress last debated the issue in 2007, Napolitano asserted in a major policy speech at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC.
“Comprehensive immigration reform bill” is codeword for “giving amnesty to illegal aliens” in Washington. Liberals don’t consider immigration “comprehensive” until millions of illegal aliens are rewarded for breaking the law and ignoring our borders.
So let’s see how Democrats intend to sell this to the American people. Unemployment will be somewhere in the area of 11% or 12%, which means millions of Americans will be searching for jobs. That’s on top of the millions of Americans who have already given up searching for employment.
And Democrats will say that millions of illegal aliens are “doing the jobs Americans won’t do”? They’re going to tell people on the brink of being homeless that working in a factory to collect a paycheck is below their standards? That somehow lawbreakers should be allowed to keep jobs that law-abiding Americans could otherwise fill? That ought to go over like a lead balloon.
On top of all of that, as JWF points out, House Democrats passed legislation that puts Americans in jail if they don’t purchase the health insurance mandated by the federal government. So we’ll be giving amnesty to people in the country illegally, but we’ll throw American citizens in jail simultaneously for not purchasing a health insurance policy. Gotcha.
You know what the worst part of all of this is? Morons like John McCain and Lindsey Graham will jump aboard the amnesty express, insisting that Republicans can’t win unless they help grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Never mind the fact that Hispanics didn’t vote for McCain, king of amnesty, in 2008. So Republicans will be able to share in the blame for this mess, all because of morons like McCain and Graham.
Both parties are on the path to political suicide. It’s amazing.
