There are very few members of Congress who are as reliably moronic as Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA). He’s been involved in scandals, argued with Capitol Hill Policemen who dared to attempt to secure the Capitol, and even claimed some Jewish conspiracy was behind the war with Iraq — comments that were actually condemned by then- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle.
Well, Moran is back with more idiocy, this time calling the family of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl “un-American”. You see, the Pearl family has expressed its opposition to the planned civil trial of 9/11 suspects in New York City. Moran thinks trying war criminals as war criminals would be “un-American”:
Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) has strong words for the Republicans opposing Attorney General Eric Holder’s plan to bring five 9/11 suspects to New York City to face trial.
“They see this as an opportunity to demagogue,” he said. “They will seize on any opportunity to do that, and that means they’ll even take a stand that’s un-American.”
“It’s un-American to hold anyone indefinitely without trial,” Moran added. “It’s against our principles as a nation.”
Moran thinks those who oppose the civil trials are “un-American”. The family of Daniel Pearl opposes the civil trials. So Moran actually believes the family of an American murdered by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed himself is “un-American”, just because said family wants war criminals tried as war criminals.
While we’re on this issue, enjoy this comment from the Talking Points Memo blog’s comment section:
And if they do get off or scream and yell about torture, we deserve it. We let our leaders make us criminals. Bite the bullet and man up. Even these sons of bitches require a trial. Let’s get it done and convict them with all the evidence we have …
Hear that? If the man responsible for murdering 3,000 of our citizens gets off and is free to move around, we deserve it. Because we made him feel uncomfortable in the pursuit of stopping future attacks on American soil. Charming.
