Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) is already vulnerable going into next year’s election. Her race is consistently listed as “toss-up” and she represents a state that typically has an independent-libertarian streak. So her vote in favor of socialized health care recently didn’t exactly help her cause.
If the editorials from newspapers in New Hampshire are any indication of the general feelings in her state, then her voters aren’t happy. Take this one for instance:
Our U.S. Representatives Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes voted for a health care bill that will add a trillion dollars of liability to our national debt and control one sixth of the economy of the United States.
In spite of numerous phone calls, faxes, and visits from their constituency, they decided to stand with the Democratic Party bosses rather than with the N.H. people who elected them. We do need reform in the health care system, but not in the enormous program represented by the 1,000-plus page Pelosi bill.
Or this one (same link):
I find it ironic that a year away from her return to New Hampshire as a former congresswoman, supporters of Ms. Shea-Porter are asking us to thank her for her heroic vote to nationalize health care. This shows that the minority of the ultra-left is still trying to persuade the rest of us that this train wreck is good for us and, despite our stupidity for not recognizing that, to thank her…
I plan to personally thank you next year by contributing money to any man, woman or child willing to run against you in the primary and, if you somehow stumble past that, in the general election. Don’t tell me a child can’t legally run — see No. 7 above regarding your stance on illegality.
By next November you will be given your pink slip, and in January can join the ranks of the unemployed who you have done all in your power to expand. All of New Hampshire can be thankful when that day finally comes.
And this one (again, same link):
Carol Shea-Porter once again voted the will of the Party bosses instead of the will of the people by voting “yes” for the unprecedented take over of the American health care system. Despite the numerous protests, town hall meetings, letters, e-mails and phone calls, Congresswoman Shea-Porter has decided that party loyalty trumps not only the will of the people, but also the fundamental founding documents and principles of this great nation.
That’s just a sample of the many editorials slamming Shea-Porter for her vote in favor of a government take-over of America’s health care system. You can find more here and here and here. Clearly there are some pissed off citizens of New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional district. And rightly so.
The bill Mrs. Shea-Porter supported will lead to rationing of care, government coming between patients and doctors, the private insurance industry being driven out of business, seniors receiving fewer medical services, and the national deficit growing once again.
Her voters have every right to be angry. Hopefully they’ll do something about it come November 2010.
