Hypocrites: Google Immediately Revokes, Apologizes for Offensive First Lady Picture

The search company dared to offend the state, apparently. Off with their heads.

For most of the past week, when someone typed “Michelle Obama” in the popular search engine Google, one of the first images that came up was a picture of the American first lady altered to resemble a monkey.

On Wednesday morning, the racially offensive image appeared to have been removed from any Google Image searches for “Michelle Obama.”

Google officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Google faced a firestorm of criticism over the episode. First, it banned the Web site that posted the photo, saying it could spread a malware virus. Then, when the image appeared on another Web site, Google let the photo stand. When a Google image search brought up the photo, an apologetic Google ad occasionally appeared above it.

The ad redirected users to a statement from Google which read, “Sometimes Google search results from the Internet can include disturbing content, even from innocuous queries. We assure you that the views expressed by such sites are not in any way endorsed by Google.”

Just to be clear, Google did nothing to place the picture where it was. The picture just showed up due to its presence on another website. But images offending Her Majesty can not stand, so it was removed and Google apologized.

They’re a bunch of hypocrites. Do a Google search for George W. Bush. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Are you back? Take note of the picture on the very first page that compares him to a monkey. Or the other image on the front page that makes it look like he’s about to consume a kitten. Or the other one that photoshops a cigarette and wig onto him.

While you’re at it, search for Hillary Clinton. Just about every image on the first page is either manipulated or catches her at an awkward moment with the intention of presenting her in a bad light.

The first page of results for President Bill Clinton includes one image photoshopped so he appears to be standing in the Oval Office in his boxer shorts.

Any apologies from Google? Nope. Pictures removed? Nope. In fact, for quite some time Googling “miserable failure” took you to the White House biography for George W. Bush. Google took its sweet time changing its algorithm to fix that one.

But some people complain that Michelle Obama is insulted so Google immediately blocks the insulting website and issues an apology. All hail Her Majesty, no one shall insult Her.
