Less than 50% of the American public now approves of Barack Obama’s performance on every major issue, according to the latest poll from Gallup. In fact, a majority disapproves of his performance on five of the seven polled issues.
His approval/disapproval ratings are as follows:
- Energy Policy: 49/35
- Terrorism: 44/47
- Global Warming: 44/36
- Economy: 44/53
- Health Care: 40/53
- Job Creation: 40/55
- Afghanistan: 35/55
That’s very bad news for Obama and, subsequently, Congressional Democrats. Just 10 months into his presidency and a majority already disapproves of his handling of the economy, health care, job creation, terrorism, and Afghanistan? And fewer than half of Americans approve of his performance on energy and global warming? He’s a liberal losing on liberal pet issues.
Unless he significantly changes his handling of the major issues on the minds of Americans, this spells doom for Congressional Democrats in next year’s midterm. Maybe that’s why even long-time, prominent Blue Dogs are jumping ship and taking this opportunity to retire with their dignity.
