Rep. Peter King (R-NY) says he will likely subpoena White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers to testify in the House investigation into how two uninvited guests managed to get into a White House party with the president.
The top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee said Thursday that he will subpoena White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers, who refused to appear before another House panel Thursday investigating the gate crashers at a White House state dinner last week.
Rep. Peter King of New York said he’s unlikely to request a subpoena on Thursday, but it’s important that Rogers testify to Congress on her role in the security breach.
“At the appropriate time I will move to subpoena Desiree Rogers,” King said.
Rogers is an Obama crony from Chicago who has refused to voluntarily testify before Congress. She bundled hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Obama campaign before being hired as social secretary. Her ex-husband, John W. Rogers, Jr., is a friend of Michelle Obama’s brother and joined his wife in fundraising for Barack Obama’s political ambitions.
Members of Congress, seeking answers over the CrasherGate incident, wanted Rogers to testify before the Homeland Security committee. But the White House has now claimed separation of powers and Robert Gibbs was adamant that Rogers wouldn’t testify. Exactly what they’re hiding isn’t clear.
One of the uninvited guests, Tareq Salahi, is a Palestinian lobbyist with ties to the Palestinian Authority. He serves on the board of a group that has attempted to scrub his name from its website in recent days. He and his wife were apparently confused by the communications they had with a friend in the Pentagon.
