Bill White, the mayor of Houston, has abandoned his bid for U.S. Senate in order to seek the Texas governor’s mansion. Under election laws, he’ll be able to transfer the $4 million he raised for his senate campaign to his gubernatorial campaign.
White, a wealthy Democratic attorney, immediately began slamming Governor Rick Perry (R) for reminding President Obama about the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution and asserting Texas’ independence from socialist policies.
His supporters, numbering just the hundreds, barely filled half the ballroom of a hotel in downtown Houston for the announcement, according to the Associated Press. Apparently, “Play That Funky Music, White Boy,” was among the musical selections for the event.
“When Sen. Hutchison said that she wouldn’t resign to campaign full time, it looks as though Gov. Rick Perry will be their nominee,” White said. “Texans deserve an alternative.”
Indeed. Perry has spent his time fighting for low taxes, less government intrusion in the lives of Texans, a strong economy, and has fought against the far-left policies of the liberal Democratic Party.
White appears to be just the guy to reverse all of that.
He’s a former crony of the Clinton Administration and chairman of the Texas Democratic Party. He has fought for tighter gun control and has made left-wing environmental policies a major part of platform. He also appears to support Congressional Democratic attempts to socialize the nation’s health care system.
