Rollingstone Mag to Launch Restaurant, Lounge

by Stephan Tawney on December 4, 2009

It’s not my cup of tea per say, but the music-oriented magazine has a bi-weekly circulation of 1.4 million. Good enough news for a slow day? You ‘betcha!

Of course, the restaurant and lounge will be opened in Los Angeles, more specifically at the Hollywood and Highland Center. It’s pretty close to the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and Kodak Theatre, so it’ll probably draw its business off tourism. The AP says the area is trafficked by 15 million tourists every year.

In a bid to bring to life the essence of the iconic music magazine, the new venue will shun typical rock memorabilia already found in places like the Hard Rock Cafe.

Instead, the 10,000-square-foot (930-square-meter) space will provide a “progressive timelessness” complete with exposed black brick walls, tufted leather furniture, vaulted ceilings and an antique iron staircase.

I think I’ll stick with the memorabilia at the Hard Rock Cafe. This new place sounds like a bore, especially for families traveling with children — a very large segment of the tourism industry, obviously.
