Breaking: Militants Attack Army Checkpoint in Pakistan

by Stephan Tawney on December 5, 2009

Even as initial reports are still coming out about the market bombing in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, Reuters reports that dozens of militants have attacked a Pakistani army checkpoint in Wana, the main city in South Waziristan.

The wire service says dozens of Islamist militants attacked the checkpoint using rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47s, killing one soldier and wounding others. Six militants were killed when the government forces retaliated.
