Flashback: Robert Byrd Not Too Happy About Working on Sunday

by Stephan Tawney on December 6, 2009

How unhappy was the senior senator from West Virginia and former Klu Klux Klan member? He actually quoted the King James Bible on why no one should work on the Sabbath. Including the part about putting such violators to death. On the floor of Senate.

The clip dates back to October 10, 2004. The Senate was working in a rare Sunday session, much like the one it’s currently in to debate Democratic attempts to socialize America’s health care system. And yet, oddly enough, there are no complaints from the left about working on the Lord’s Day. Funny that.

Where’s Robert Byrd now? Serving as president pro tempore of the United States Senate and pushing for socialized health care. Bueller? Bueller?
