Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of singer Bill Joel and model Christie Brinkley, was rushed to the hospital this afternoon after attempting to commit suicide by drug overdose, the New York Post reports. A family spokesman says she’s now stable and conscious.

A female called 911 just after noon today, telling the operator that Joel had taken multiple sleeping bills and wanted to die. Medics arrived at her West Village apartment at 12:21 pm. She was taken to St. Vincent’s hospital where she remains this evening.

Joel recently wrote on her MySpace page that she felt “forgotten” and expressed difficulty over finding a man in New York City who is both nice and interesting. She disclosed that she had to drag herself out the door every morning and yet still couldn’t meet someone to with which to have a relationship.

She’s the only daughter of her father and Brinkley, who were married in 1984 and divorced a decade later.
