Obama Fires Official Who Investigated Black Panthers Party

by Stephan Tawney on December 28, 2009

The head of the Justice Department’s voting rights division, Christopher Coates, has been replaced by the Obama Administration after he initiated an investigation into the violent Black Panthers Party.

The party, known for its Marxist ties and violent black nationalism past, was videotaped quite obviously intimidating voters outside a polling station in Philadelphia back on November 4th, 2008. Two individuals were wearing paramilitary uniforms and carrying nightsticks.

Christopher Coates, apparently understanding his job at the voting rights division as defending voting rights, signed off on the complaint filed against the black nationalist group.

Coates signed off on the controversial voter intimidation complaint against the New Black Panther Party and three of its members, filed in the waning days of the George W. Bush administration. The Obama DOJ’s decision to dismiss most of the charges in May has become a political controversy for the administration.

The Obama Administration, known for its own ties to Marxism and controversial black organizations (see: TUCC), mysteriously decided to drop the voter intimidation charges against the Black Panthers. No explanation, plenty of evidence to support the charges, yet the case was abandoned.

I’d say it’s a surprise that the Obama Administration is actively protecting a violent black nationalist group engaging in voter intimidation, but it’s not surprising at all. In fact, I expect nothing less from this administration.
