Hysterical: Iran Denies Kerry A Visa

by Stephan Tawney on January 3, 2010

Well, we’ve stumbled upon a minor roadblock on the road to peace through Obama’s patented “smart power” system. Apparently the state sponsor of terrorism isn’t all that thrilled about high-ranking members of Congress waltzing in to Tehran with overtures of peace for our time.

Either that, or the Mullahs are enjoying making the United States appear to be begging, to no avail, for entrance into an Islamic country with dreams of nuclear weapons and a Jew-free future.

Iranian legislators on Sunday decided to not allow a visit from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-Mass.), according to Iranian media.

“Members of the Iranian parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee (a subcommittee of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission) voiced opposition to the request after studying the issue,” Hassan Ebrahimi, head of the committee, told the semi-official Fars News Agency.

Iran’s response also included this gem:

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has no plans to negotiate with any American official, unless the country (the U.S.) changes its policies,” member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Zohreh Elahian said, according to Fars News Agency.

Of course, our “policies” in the eyes of Iran are a mixture of both real policies inconvenient to the Mullahs, and policies that don’t actually exist somewhere outside of the imagination of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. So changing said policies, without essentially giving up our national security and bowing at their feet, isn’t about to happen.

Or is it? Obama appears so desperate to settle this situation through misplaced diplomacy that he’s willing to do the morally reprehensible and, frankly, dangerous. He’s already provided legitimacy to the illegitimate government of Iran in the name of pursuing peace talks in the future. I wouldn’t put it past him to give up aspects of our national security in the name of the same ultimate goal.

Just another day in the land of Hope’NChange.
