Hey, remember when Barack Obama campaigned against taxing health insurance plans? Even going so far as to blast John McCain for even considering the idea? Yeah, apparently that was the campaign and this is now.
The Associated Press is reporting that Obama has approved the Senate’s plan to tax higher-end health care plans. And while that sounds like it would only affect the wealthy, those who typically have these plans are union members and middle-class Americans.
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders Wednesday that they’ll have to drop their opposition to taxing high-end health insurance plans to pay for health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans.
In a meeting at the White House, Obama expressed his preference for the insurance tax contained in the Senate’s health overhaul bill, but largely opposed by House Democrats and organized labor, Democratic aides said. The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.
How bad does a liberal tax have to be for unions to vocally oppose the Obama Administration and its Congressional allies? Very bad.
Of course, House Democrats have an equally-disastrous plan to tax investors and job creators, so we’re no better off regardless of who ends up winning this inner-party fight.
