Back from when he was promising Hope’N'Change, promising to bring a new era of transparency and populism to Washington. Basically, back when he was saying anything to get elected — including repeatedly making promises he never intended to keep.
The video shows him talking bullshit about taking input from the American public, making sure everyone had a seat at the table, and — as he says eight times — broadcasting the negotiations on C-SPAN. One time he even promises to stream the video live on the internet.
Of course, that never came to fruition. Democrats shut out the GOP and American public, negotiated with special interests behind closed doors, trampled over anyone who opposed the end result, and made deals using taxpayer funds to win votes for passage. In other words, it was as corrupt, if not more so, than ever.
“But Obama’s not in control of Congress! Take a course in civics!”
Bullshit.
If he couldn’t keep the promise then he shouldn’t have made it. But he did make it, because he knew he had the power to keep it and the American people knew he had the power to keep it.
He’s the leader of his party, holder of the largest and most visible bully-pulpit in the world. If he wanted Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to broadcast the negotiations, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would’ve broadcast the negotiations.
But Obama didn’t want the broadcast to take place. He wanted everything negotiated with special interests behind closed doors, ensuring the deals could be made to pass something, anything, with the words “health care reform” in the title. Democrats, including Obama, didn’t want the corruption broadcast to the American people.
So he lied. Which is par for the course for this administration. Hope? Plenty. Change? None.
