And we’re not talking about understandable mistakes or information we’ve simply learned is false since its publication. First error on the list? The report says the attempted bombing took place on “Northwest Flight 153″. Er, no. It was actually flight 253.
Next error: The report claims Abdulmuttalab’s father met with embassy officials in Nigeria on November 18th. The problem? He actually met with them on November 19th.
So ABC has already found two errors within 24 hours of the report’s publication, both of them the kind of stupid mistakes that get Americans killed.
Stupid mistakes getting Americans killed? Hyperbole, you say. Not so.
The State Department actually checked to make sure Abdulmuttalab didn’t hold a valid entry visa prior to the attack. Why didn’t they find one for him? Because they spelled his name wrong. Had it not been for a faulty detonator, a misspelling would’ve been responsible for nearly 300 innocent deaths over Detroit.
Stupid mistakes get people killed in the national security business. And the Obama Administration responded to stupid mistakes by issuing a report complete with stupid mistakes. Something tells me we’re no better off than we were on December 24th.
