Bristol Palin Launches Public Relations Firm

by Stephan Tawney on January 9, 2010

Her resume: No college degrees, only graduated high school last May, never worked directly in public relations in her life. And yet, she’s launching her own public relations firm. The question: Why?

I fear the answer involves her mother. It’s not exactly uncommon in politics for politician parents to hire their children, using donor funds, to carry out services for a campaign. It’s a not-so-hidden way of funneling donor funds to the family.

Bristol wouldn’t need public relations experience. She can hire lackeys with experience and then simply “run” the business. Her mother, who most believe will run for president in 2012, can then hire the firm for public relations or consulting work. Donors put money in the pot, the campaign uses the money to hire the firm owned by the daughter, and the family in turn enriches itself on donor funds.

Again, not saying that’s what will happen. Or that Bristol and her family have anything like that in mind. But it would hardly be the first time politicians and their families engaged in such behavior. And there’s no clear explanation as to why a young girl with no college education or direct public relations experience would open her own public relations firm.
