Apparently they’ve been demonized by a public more obsessed with history than pushing Oliver Stone’s far, far-left agenda. And just to be clear, yes, he’s going to try to humanize and vindicate Hitler, the very embodiment of evil on earth.
Director Oliver Stone’s upcoming Showtime documentary miniseries “Secret History of America” promises to put mass murderers such as Stalin and Hitler “in context.”
“Stalin, Hitler, Mao, McCarthy — these are people who have been vilified pretty thoroughly by history,” Stone told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour in Pasadena.
Hitler. Was vilified by history. The man killed six million Jews alone. Never mind the number of Soviet, American, Canadian, and generally Allied troops. Or the German citizens and soldiers who died thanks to his insane crusade.
And Mao? Chairman Mao? He killed tens of millions — millions — of his own countrymen, plunged his nation into the horrors of political and economic oppression, and left a negative impact on geopolitics and history that we still can’t fully comprehend.
Don’t even get me started on Stalin.
The actions of these men speak for themselves. History didn’t need to help vilify them. They vilified themselves. And yet somehow, Stone thinks these individuals have been mistreated by generations of historians and the public.
Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history. He’s the product of a series of actions. People in America don’t know the connection between WWI and WWII. I’ve been able to walk in Stalin’s shoes and Hitler’s shoes. We’re going to educate our minds and liberalize them and broaden them. We want to move beyond opinions. Go into the funding of the Nazi party. How many American corporations were involved. Hitler is a product of a series of events, just a man who could have been assassinated.”
Stone said that conservative pundits will dislike the show.
“Obviously, Rush Limbaugh is not going to like this history and, as usual, we’re going to get those kind of ignorant attacks,” he said.
One would think that decent people everywhere would be offended by Stone’s attempts to rewrite history in order to humanize monsters like Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, and Joseph Stalin. And opposing revisionism isn’t “ignorant” — attempting to apologize for the likes of Hitler is, however.
Apparently there’s no low too low for Oliver Stone.
