Coakley Gets Desperate, Goes Extremely Negative

by Stephan Tawney on January 11, 2010

In a sign of major desperation, Martha Coakley (D) has launched an extremely negative ad campaign that suggests her opponent, Scott Brown (R), supports the horrific crime of rape. Yes, really.

It’s bad enough that even political journalists from typically-left-wing outlets are calling it as the desperate ad that it is. Coakley is panicking now that Brown, a pragmatist with independent-minded solutions for America, is closing in on her lead in a deep-blue state.

Today alone, Brown has raised over $1 million and received the endorsements of the Boston Herald and the State Police Association. According to the campaign, union members have been seen manning the phones for the Republican while senior citizens, most likely worried about the massive cuts to Medicare Democrats have proposed, are coming into the office to offer assistance.

Who would’ve thought just a few months ago that Democrats would be panicking in a deep-blue state? Even if Brown loses at this point, how hard the left had to work speaks volumes about the current political climate. What a year.
