Coakley Dodges Questions About Afghanistan

by Stephan Tawney on January 14, 2010

Martha Coakley, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, claimed at the other night’s debate that there are no more terrorists located in Afghanistan. That should come as a surprise to the rest of the world, currently busy dealing with the many terrorists still located in Afghanistan.

As you can imagine, her mind=blowing claim has drawn attention from the media. As CNN reports, however, Coakley is dodging questions:

Washington (CNN) – Democrat Martha Coakley dodged a pointed question Tuesday about her claim during a Massachusetts Senate debate the night before that terrorists are no longer in Afghanistan….

A reporter asked Coakley about that claim after a Capitol Hill fundraiser on Tuesday. “Do you stand by that remark?” he asked.

Coakely, standing before a small cluster of reporters and cameras, listened to the question, then quickly looked in a different direction.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “Did anybody else have a question?”

Wait. What? One of the biggest jobs of a United States Senator is dealing with foreign policy and national security. Coakley, a candidate for that seat, makes obviously false statements dealing with both and then dodges questions? And she wants voters to trust her?
