It’s Official: Supreme Courts Bars Prop 8 Trial Broadcast

by Stephan Tawney on January 14, 2010

A few days ago the United States Supreme Court issued a ban on the broadcast of the federal Proposition 8 trial in California. The ban was temporary and only lasted until today, giving the court the time it needed to fully consider the issue.

Well, the court has decided. The federal judge in California, a liberal activist looking to intimidate anti-gay marriage witnesses, has been barred from broadcasting the trial. The United States Supreme Court won’t allow the judge to establish a media circus intended to intimidate one side of the issue.

The vote was along ideological lines, with Judge Anthony Kennedy voting with the conservatives. Wise Latina Sonia Sotomayor voted, unsurprisingly, with the liberal ideologues. Any illusion that she’s a pragmatist has been blown away by this ruling.
